Weather it is for yourself or for your Ayi, at HLCC our Chinese chef will introduce you to a wide variety of Chinese dishes and styles. Starting with popular choices like spring rolls and kong pao chicken your journey will lead you through some more difficult dishes that will help you impress your guests.
But perhaps the most interesting part about our cooking classes is our students impute. We do not need to stick to our menu as general knowledge about Chinese cooking applies to any and every dish!
We invite our students to express their interests and build up our menus accordingly. That way you will not waste your time learning a dish that you already made by yourself but rather spend your time effectively learning those tricks and tips that can’t be learned from a book!

Chinese people have always treated food as part of their culture. There is an old saying still being quoted today ---"Food is the first necessity of the people." Delicious and nutritious food has been regarded as the basics of ordinary life.
Indeed, the greeting for most Chinese when meeting one another tends not to be "how are you", but more popularly, "Have you eaten?”! Everywhere in China, regardless if it's a big or small town, you can find Chinese restaurants and food stalls easily. In fact, Chinese restaurants are commonly found in cities all over the world!
Food in China is a communal affair. Chinese food is often taken together as a family unit with the emphasis on shared dishes. Only the rice or buns are served individually; everything else is shared from a communal bowl, including the main soup.
It is always a Chinese culture to greet each other while sitting down for a meal and wait for everyone to be seated before a meal can start. The most senior or elderly person at the table will take the first bite and only then, will the rest of the diners join in.

Chinese cuisine has been exported to the world very successfully. Tea is the one singular item that has eclipsed all Chinese foodstuffs and even the cuisine itself in its influence on the wider world. A drink enjoyed in all its various forms by everyone from Japanese Emperors to Russian peasants.
Nearly three million tons of tea are produced worldwide, according to the UK-based Tea Institute. Tea drinkers consumed nearly three cups a day in 1999, or a million more cups than the year before, according to the Institute.
Tea like coffee contains caffeine, and no doubt the addictive qualities of that substance play a part in the drink's popularity.
With the health benefits of tea increasingly understood and touted, tea will continue to win new adherents well into the future.
Perhaps not everyone would know that coffee originated from north-east Africa. Most folks though will always associate tea with its birthplace in China.
